jurisdiction of the thandar of Deodar Thana.

to Baroda.
TITLE OF RULER: Thakor
RELIGION: Hindu
RULING FAMILY: The ruling family of Deodar are
Bhilria Waghela Rajputs, which have ruled in the area since before the end of
the 13th century. Their name comes from Bhilri, now in Palanpur, where they
first settled. A severe famine in 1786 laid waste the greater part of the
territory, and the chief was forced to migrate elsewhere. Taking advantage of
his absence, neighboring chiefs divided his territory among them. Punjaji, of
the cadet branch recovered the taluka with the help of the nawab of Radhanpur,
and the claims of the senior branch were set aside by the British government in
1828, so that both Deodar chiefs stem from the original junior branch. On
Punjaji’s death, the estate was shared by his two sons, Akhesingh and Chandaji.
Succession in Deodar I is governed by the rule of primogeniture.
